Tassie shuns the dentist

MORE than a quarter of Tasmanians have not visited a dentist in the past five years, with many citing cost as the main impediment to oral health.Research released yesterday by Anglicare reveals a grim picture of Tasmanians' dental health practices -- leading to the worst teeth in the nation.
Anglicare's findings show 28 per cent of Tasmanian adults have not visited a dentist in the past five years and 58 per cent have not seen a dentist in the past year.
Some 20 per cent of those who had not been to a dentist in the past year said they did not go because they could not afford it.
A further 60 per cent said they had not needed to see a dentist while 17 per cent said they did not want to see one.
