New Tasmanian Events Calendar Leading National Industry -

New Tasmanian Events Calendar Leading National Industry - Paula Wriedt, MHA - Tasmanian Government Media Releases

The profile of Tasmanian events received a significant boost today with the official launch of a new Tasmanian Events Calendar.

Tourism Minister Paula Wriedt said the launch of the new events calendar was timely as part of the new ?Go See Tasmania? campaign that features a strong focus on events.

Ms Wriedt said the events calendar was the first of its kind within Australia in terms of database management and usability and is expected to provide enormous dividends for event organisers and Tasmania?s tourism industry.

?For the first time event organisers are empowered by allowing ownership and management of their event listing for free.?

?An event organiser can now post their own event details, edit information and include images of their event to create a comprehensive and user-friendly system.?

?The beauty of this new system is that visitors and locals alike can search the new calendar for events by weekend, by month or search specifically for dates they may be visiting Tasmania,? said Ms Wriedt.

?Events are an important part of Tasmania?s personality, culture and tourism offerings with substantial economic returns for the State.?

Ms Wriedt said the new events calendar is to be promoted extensively to event organisers, information providers and to visitors as a central source of what?s on in the state.

?There are currently more than 2,500 events listed with this number expected to grow through further promotion.?

?This is a fantastic opportunity for all event organisers from large scale festivals through to regional community fairs and markets, to get word of your upcoming event to a large audience and I encourage all organisations and event groups to register.?

?The power of the new events calendar is evident with direct search capabilities for events listed in the database through Google ? the world?s largest search engine,? said Ms Wriedt.

?The events calendar is available from Tasmania?s premier destination consumer website www.discovertasmania.com with a direct link from the home page.?

Ms Wriedt said locally owned and operated company Imagination Corporation are the custodians of the database and will manage information on behalf of Tourism Tasmania.

?The initiative and creativity of the database is a perfect example of delivering on the Tasmanian brand.?

?It is exactly the type of product development and investment we are fostering in Tasmania to strengthen and promote Tasmania?s tourism industry.?

Event organisers can register by visiting www.discovertasmania.com and following links to the events calendar.
