The withdrawal of high-profile yachts Brindabella and Bacardi means there are 89 yachts entered for this year's Sydney to Hobart race.

The Commodore of the Crusing Yacht Club of Australia, Geoff Lavis, says if weather conditions are right it willl be a fast race.

"It'll be a battle between Alfa Romeo, and the new Wild Oats I'm sure, but there's a couple that competed last year and given the right conditions they could be there with those guys," he said.

Entries closed at 5:00pm (AEDT) this afternoon, but as additional forms could still be in the mail, a final list of entries will be released at close of business on Monday.
