Betting Exchange Licence Welcomed - Jim Cox, MHA - Tasmanian Government Media Releases

Betting Exchange Licence Welcomed - Jim Cox, MHA - Tasmanian Government Media Releases

Racing Minister Jim Cox has welcomed the decision by the Tasmanian Gaming Commission to issue a betting exchange licence to Betfair.

“The granting of the licence was the result of an independent process after State Parliament last year put the guidelines in place to allow the establishment of internet betting exchanges.

“Betfair brings with it unprecedented improvements in probity and integrity to racing, huge funding increases to the local racing industry and at least 150 new jobs for Tasmania.”

Mr Cox said there were huge benefits for both the traditional racing industry, with additional funding flowing right through to the grass roots, as well as the brave new era of the IT sector, where the 150 new jobs would be created.

“Betfair is further proof that Tasmania is open for business.

“This investment decision will cement the State’s reputation as a ‘can-do’ place to do business and attract further investment.”
