Danish Prince named Christian. 21/01/2006. ABC News Online

The three-month-old son of Danish Crown Prince Frederik and Australia-born Crown Princess Mary has been given the name of Christian as expected.

His full name is Christian Valdemar Henri John.

The name Christian is in line with Danish royal tradition as Danish kings have alternated using the names Christian and Frederik since 1513.

The christening ceremony was held in a palace church in Copenhagen and was broadcast live on Danish television.

European royalty, family and friends made up the guest list including Princess Mary's father John Donaldson, her best friend and bridesmaid Amber Petty, and the Australian ambassador to Denmark Amanda Peek.

The little Prince was baptised in the same dress worn by his father at his christening in 1968.

He will have eight godparents including Princess Mary's sister and one of her former flatmates.

The temperature there was minus one degree Celsius, but a few hundred people gathered outside the chapel to catch a glimpse of the royals.
