Exercise-mental health link probed. 09/01/2006. ABC News Online

Researchers at the Menzies Institute in Hobart, Tasmania, are exploring links between physical activity and emotional wellbeing.
They will ask 2,200 adults about their mental state, social support structure and their consumption of drugs and alcohol.
The research is a follow-up to a study conducted amongst 8,000 school children more than 20 years ago.
The PhD student conducting the research, Charlotte McKercher, says that by following up on a previous study, they will be able to get a more accurate guide to whether a link exists.
"We'll be able to go back and look at the data from the original study and look at the children who've been engaged in vigorous physical activity and see if that's protective against developing depression and anxiety in early adulthood," she said.
