Gully behind the Hill

The Mercury: Gully behind the Hill [02jan06]

THIS is the first time Lalla Gully Wines has set up a stall at the Taste of Tasmania.

The vineyard is sharing a stall with the highly successful Clover Hill Wines. Both are owned by Taltarni Wines in Victoria.

Hospitality and cellar door manager Marc Southam said the response had been fantastic for the small North-East winery.

"We have been able to use the highly-successful and well-known Clover Hill name to promote Lalla Gully wines," he said.

"Sales across the range have been strong."

Pinot noir, sauvignon blanc, reisling, pinot gris and chardonnay are available at the stall.

Lactos Heritage cheeses are also available to sample with the wines.

"Our bottle prices are affordable. There's no point trying to price ourselves out of the market," Mr Southam said.

Asked if Lalla Gully will return to the Taste next year, Mr Southam was unhesitating.

"Absolutely."
