Hydro denies Basslink will drain dams. 09/01/2006. ABC News Online

Hydro Tasmania has rejected claims that Basslink will have a negative impact on the west coast.
West Coast Mayor Darryl Gerrity is concerned the majority of electricity generated for Basslink will come from the region, draining dams that are full.
Hydro's Michael Connarty says there is a limit to how much water can be taken from storage dams.
"It's basically the storages have a physical limit, that's not changing," he said.
"Basslink actually helps us maintain our storages at better levels so that we have less chance of actually draining them empty.
"Basslink has a benefit from that perspective and also Basslink should allow us not to spill as much water and therefore flood the rivers down stream at those storages."
