Mt Wellington winds break record. 04/01/2006. ABC News Online

Winds of 135 kilometres an hour on Mount Wellington today were the strongest recorded in Tasmania for January.
The winds have kept emergency service crews busy clearing fallen trees from some of the state's major roads and retrieving boats that broke their moorings.
Forecaster Tim Bolden says conditions will ease for most of the state over the next few hours.
"But there will still be winds possible above the 100 kilometre-an-hour mark, but contracting further to the south east gradually this evening," he said.
