Animal protection campaigners have begun handing out leaflets at the Taste of Tasmania, outlining what they call the dark side of the state's natural produce industries.

The group, Against Animal Cruelty, is protesting against the use of 1080 poison, the shooting of native animals, and what it says is a soft response from the government to illegal mutton-birding.

A spokeswoman for the group, Catherine Tilcock, says they want to make visitors to The Taste aware of the practices of industries such as the wallaby meat industry.

"It's another issue where our wildlife are treated abominably to (be able to) make it to a venue such as this," she said.
