Tas sees rise in job creation. 16/01/2006. ABC News Online

The Tasmanian Government is talking up its job creation record, after new figures were released showing Tasmania created more jobs than any other state or territory in December 2005.

Bureau of Statistics figures show in trend terms 800 new jobs were created in Tasmania last December.

Social welfare groups are cautious about the figure, arguing only 100 of the 800 jobs were full time.

Economic Development Minister Lara Giddings says there are more Tasmanians in the work force than any other time in history and the State continues to buck the national trend.

"Whereas a state like Queensland - one of the other fastest growing states saw a decline of 2,200 jobs, she said.

"So this is an indication of just how strong the Tasmanian economy is performing and just how strong the business confidence is too that they are still employing people."
