A Tired, Stale Approach by Brett Whiteley - David Bartlett, MHA - Tasmanian Government Media Releases

A Tired, Stale Approach by Brett Whiteley - David Bartlett, MHA - Tasmanian Government Media Releases

Brett Whiteley’s Latest Tax attack has proven this member is not only irresponsible but incompetent when it comes to the State’s finances.

Member for Denison David Bartlett said Mr Whiteley is devoid of ideas by rehashing one of his own releases from months ago.

“But what is sad is the lengths this member will go to in his lust for a cheap headline.

“The only tax record which matters is the Government’s proud record of being the biggest tax cutting Government in Tasmania's history.

“These tax cuts will put $830 million back into the pockets of Tasmanian families and businesses over the seven years from 2001-02 to 2008-09.

Mr Bartlett said when fully implemented the tax cuts will provide savings of $148 million each and every year, which is three times more the Libs ill conceived land tax proposal.

“Further more I call on Mr Whiteley to come clean on which ones of these so-called backdoor tax slugs he would cut.

“Any such cuts would add to the hundreds of millions of unfunded promises the Liberals have already made.

“The Liberals really are warped if they believe their own press because this party certainly isn’t offering any plans or vision.

“Brett Whiteley has proven in the new year that he's just intent on recycling his old financially irresponsible and dangerous approach rather than anything fresh or new.

“What is concerning this time though is Mr Whiteley’s attack on Government businesses and authorities such as Aurora, Metro and Marine and Safety Tasmania.

“This is a appalling approach which again shows the Liberal’s complete lack of financial responsibility.

“I call on Mr Whiteley to guarantee that he will not force vital Government businesses and authorities into loss situations which will no doubt lead to job losses and a decline in vital infrastructure!”
